After receiving some really, really, really nice Christmas presents this year (a 50mm prime lens, a 18-200mm lens and a Canon 430 EX II flash), I have decided that this is the year that I learn to use my camera (a Canon 450D) properly. Unfortunately because I do not have a lot of time on my hands – as I work a full-time job, and enjoy exercising daily – this meant that committing to a project 365 was destined for failure. I am sure that about a week into a 365 challenge, I would fail, and all I would have done is taken 7 photographs.
A photo a day is daunting, but I am sure that I could wrap my brain around a photo a week, so this is the challenge that I have set myself. I am going to try to enter as many competitions / challenges / assignments as I can, not expecting any prizes, but hoping for comments and constructive criticism to help me grow as a photographer.
I am also going to commit to putting myself out there by offering to do family / children shoots for friends (and eventually build up enough of a portfolio – and skill – to be able to do some paid shoots). I am going to take full advantage of the 3 weeks of leave that I have to look forward to at the end of March to document the week leading up to my wedding, and the honeymoon (I will leave the actual wedding day to the professionals).
The second part of my weekly photo challenge to myself is to commit to editing the photos that I take, and choosing the best picture within a week to post on this blog. I am starting off on a rocky footing, but my excuse is that my DSL line was down until yesterday, so there will be two quick catchup posts, and then at least a post per week! I will do it, I will 🙂
