I wasn’t able to take part in this year’s Pick ‘n Pay Argus Cycle Tour (riding pregnant is probably not the smartest idea), but we went through to cheer all our friends along.

I had to snap a picture of this CRAZY cyclist – 110km on a unicycle??

(Personal) – Michael James’s first day

This is coming to you all courtesy of Katie’s husband, Myles.

Today marked the day of the birth of our beautiful baby boy, all 3.58kg of him. He’s our first born, and this is just a little pic I took of him while we were in the hospital this afternoon, just after he had been put down to rest in his crib (provided by the hospital for the duration of the stay)

He just looks so tender, so vulnerable, and yet so strong.

Welcome, Michael James Mayhew

Personal {Nursery Tour}

We are heading to hospital tomorrow to meet our little man for the first time, and I finally got around to taking photos of the (almost) complete nursery today.  All that still needs to be completed is the changing table – hubby has been working really hard, and made the cot from scratch, and just needs to assemble the changing table this weekend before I am discharged on Monday.

I have put the Winnie the Pooh paintings above the cot, and will be adding some black and white photos form our maternity and newborn sessions to the mix there too. I am rather impressed with the way that the cot turned out (it took a long time, but I think it was worth it), and it is adjustable so that as the little man grows, the cot will “grow” with him.

winnie the pooh cotI am fortunate to have the space for a single bed in the nursery as well, which should make late night / early morning feeds a little more bearable (I’m not very good with cold, rainy nights, so having a duvet available will definitely help!).  Our wonderful little “protector puppy” loves having the bed there too – it’s his favourite place to chill out and relax during the day.  I hope that he will protect junior as well as he has protected me throughout my pregnancy!

puppy watching over cotHubby also made the box shelves which will eventually have the changing table below, and friends of ours gave us the gorgeous tidy (matching our Winnie the Pooh theme!) which will definitely make changing easier (no hunting around for supplies with a wriggling baby on the table).

box shelves with winnie the pooh tidy for changing tableAs you can see, hubby managed to sneak the model car and ship past me! Apparently, all boys love ships and cars.

We were also given a beautiful sign for the door – I saw it and absolutely fell in love. It’s the closest thing to “whimsical” that I was allowed to incorporate in the room!

As soon as I am home again, I will be posting some photos of our little one – we’re looking forward to meeting him in the morning!

xterra grabouw mountainbike leg

My hubby doing his first Xterra event! He is a mountain biker through and through, so he was rather worried about the swim and run legs… I was very impressed with him, he did the swim slowly, but steadily, made up a lot of time on the cycle leg, and then paced himself through the run. He finished – and ended up enjoying it!

I felt rather weird watching him, because I’m usually the crazy person doing triathlons or other sporting events. Next year – I will join him 🙂 or I can compete and he can babysit 🙂

Rebecca’s Baptism {Nazareth House | Cape Town}

I was asked to document Rebecca’s baptism service earlier this year to allow her parents, family and friends to simply enjoy the ceremony. I really enjoyed this, as it was such a special service. It was so nice to be a “fly on the wall” for this one, and simply capture all the wonderful, loving moments!

black and white treescape - grabouw, South Africa

During a weekend away in Grabouw, I managed to sneak in some photos. We went away because hubby was competing in the Totalsports Xterra and we didn’t want to have to rush to the start from Cape Town (an hour long drive). I found watching him compete one of the most difficult experiences so far – usually I’m the one competing in events like this, but being rather pregnant at the time, a triathlon was not the smartest idea. Next year though!

I was wandering through the vineyards at the guesthouse where we were staying, I turned around and saw this beautiful hill of trees against the sky in silhouette. I absolutely had to take a photo!

I can’t wait to head back to that side of the Cape to take more photos 🙂

A sneak peek of some of the decor for our baby’s nursery… As soon as I’m finished, I will put up a full nursery tour 🙂

winnie the pooh on canvas

I decided to go with a Winnie the Pooh theme as it is gender-neutral, and I was planning the decor for the nursery before I knew what we were having. It also means that should a sibling arrive at any stage, I can re-use a lot of the decor again, with a few changes to make it specific for each child 🙂

I have painted 3 canvasses so far, and will be finishing the fourth one soon.  As soon as everything is in it’s place, I will definitely take photos and create a full “nursery tour” for everyone to see.
